Captian America Costume Over The Years: All You Need To Know

We have all seen the launch of the Avengers Franchise that started with Captain America in 2011 and has spanned across multiple films. It has all lead to the Endgame and what a game it was. When the first Captain America movie was launched, it wasn’t as big as we all thought it would be. It brought in a cool $176 million in the United States. But it wasn’t anything close to the two Iron Man movies that had crushed it at the box office and each brought in around $300 million.

As the franchise progressed, we saw Captain America turn from a so-so character to the most lovable and hugely popular character that he is now. During his tenure at the franchise, Captain America went through a gradual but complete change. All Captain America fans were thrilled with this and have followed him closely through this entire time.

There are various reasons why Captain America is so popular with fans. One is that Chris Evans is playing the hero. We cannot think of anyone more suitable to play the bold, courageous, and ready-for-battle character. Another reason is that we see the Captain, not as a superhero, but as a human being. He feels conflict, he has doubt, sometimes he does things that don’t seem right at the time.

THE COSTUMES

Another thing that the fans have followed closely is the plethora of suits that the Captain has worn over the years. These are all uniforms that Steve Rogers has donned while putting down the bad guys and guiding his team. Each Captain America costume has something to do with his state of mind at the time and they play an important role in building up his character.

Here is all you need to know about Captain America Costumes over the years.

USO Costume

All Steve Rogers ever wanted was to go to war. He believed in it. That is why he volunteered for the experiment, knowing it could just as easily kill him as work on him. Once he comes out of the experiment looking all buff and taller than he was, he sees reality. Instead of sending the super-soldier to the frontline, they send him to perform shows around the country. His job is to sell bonds that will bring in the finance for war. His purpose is to bring up the morale of the country and act as a symbol of pride for the people. Basically, he is an over-glorified mascot. The suit, as can be expected, is not meant for war but show.

Original Field Uniform

When Steve gets the chance to wade into deeper waters and finally goes to the frontline to save his friend Bucky, he puts together an ad-hoc uniform that still carries the USO uniform. He takes an ‘A’ helmet from one of the singers of the show and completes the look with a combat leather jacket, pants, boots, and goggles. The jacket later came to be known as the Captain America leather jacket and the look became hugely famous with all the fans. We see him going into enemy territory and bringing back all the troops that were captured by Hydra, including Bucky Barns.

Second Uniform

The second suit that we see Captain America wearing is made by none other than Howard Stark. Howard is Tony’s father and a scientific genius. The suit is fire resistant and is made of a carbon polymer. The Captain America helmet is back, this time with the wings motif. Also, we see a utility belt and leather gloves. The old triangular shield is gone and the new vibranium shield has taken its place. This is the suit and the shield that he has with him when he crashes into the ice.

First Avengers Uniform

When Captain America wakes up, he finds out that the world has changed. Not just the world, but his suit has changed as well. Gone is the Captain America Jacket, but the suit still has the ‘good old fashioned’ feel to it. That is because S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson was a part of the team that designed the suit. We see Steve Rogers fighting side by side with Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Thor, and others to take down Loki as well as the Chitauri attack on New York City.

STRIKE Stealth Uniform

The fourth uniform that he wears is for stealth purposes. This is when S.H.I.E.L.D. sends him on covert missions. This is a navy blue uniform with a Kevlar vest. It is made for stealth and black-ops missions.

Second Avengers Uniform

In the second Avengers movie, we see Steve Rogers wearing a uniform made by none other than Tony Stark. It matches the stealth uniform a little bit but the colors are back to red, white, and blue. A huge improvement is the electromagnetic panels that he uses to bring his shield back. The suit also provides him with better protection.

Third Avengers Uniform

The third suit that he wears is when he becomes the leader of the new and improved Avengers team. It has better armour and the electromagnetic panels are gone in favour of the more traditional straps.

Fourth Avengers Uniform

His last suit is much like the last one he wears. In the last suit, the chain mail underneath was showing. Now we see that the scales are out in the open. He wears this suit in the final battle against Thanos.
